Transition East
Transition East: Forming regional networks
The Transition Movement - 'a community response' - is as much about working together as it is about responding to peak oil and climate change. Transition East, as a regional network of Transition initiatives in East Anglia, takes that to a regional level. Our purpose is to create effective ways to co-ordinate ourselves at several levels without top-down control. We have found that we learn a lot from each other and are looking for more ways to create synergy and mutual support.
We have held one regional meeting, are planning a second in November, have set up a 'regional support group' that has met twice, have a regional website, transitioneast.net and an active Google group. We are developing 'transition circles' in which small groups meet regularly to support each other in reducing their carbon footprint.
The workshop will start with a description of what we have done so far, our plans, our struggles, but will concentrate on exploring with participants how this might be applied to Transition Initiatives in the North.
The workshop will be led by Gary Alexander, author of eGaia, Growing a peaceful, sustainable Earth through communications, and Josiah Meldrum, initiator of Transition Town Bungay and a director of East Anglia Food Link.
